How You Can Incorporate CBD Into Your Beauty Routine

How to dose CBD Daily, different ways to consume CBD

There is a lot to know about CBD skincare before adding it to your daily beauty regimen.

Move over, THC. CBD skincare has officially stolen the cannabis and beauty limelight. From luxury spa treatments to dedicated displays at your neighborhood corner pharmacy, CBD can be found just about everywhere these days.

This is due to that fact that this non-psychoactive cannabinoid recently became legal in the United States. Thank-you, 2018 Farm Bill! As destigmatization is increasing, CBD is rising above preconceived notions about cannabis. It’s carving out a place in the wellness industry and this trend doesn’t look like it’s going away any time soon.

However, buying in isn’t as simple as it sounds. The market is still largely unregulated. In turn, false claims and incorrect labeling are rampant, causing a whole lot of confusion among CBD consumers. To add to the murky waters surrounding CBD, the science on what it can and can’t do is still catching up. That’s why it’s important to keep a few things in mind when adding CBD to your beauty routine.

Not All Hemp Oil is CBD Oil

Hemp extract

CBD is derived from the hemp plant, also called Cannabis sativa. Keep in mind, if a product is labeled as “hemp oil” it doesn’t necessarily mean there is CBD in it. Hemp seed oil, a popular ingredient in hair and skin products, does not contain any CBD. This is because it is made from the seeds of the cannabis plant that does not have cannabinoids.

While hemp seed oil may hydrate your skin with omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, it doesn’t quite have the same effect as CBD oil. Often, it isn’t advertised with the same price tag. So, if you’re looking to buy hemp oil that contains CBD, check to see if it is made from the plant or from its seeds.

What CBD Beauty Products Can Do For Your Skin

The anecdotal claims about CBD are pretty impressive. However, how can we be sure that they are true? The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned companies selling CBD products not to advertise claims that are scientifically unproven.

So, what can CBD for skin do, anyway?

Research has shown that CBD is both an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory, and it has anti-fungal properties as well. That might be what makes it a possible treatment for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Science has discovered that it’s also a potentially good option for helping out with acne and dry skin.

Using CBD for acne is reason enough to love this popular cannabinoid. Interestingly, many are also flocking to CBD beauty products for claims of anti-aging effects. Inflammation and dry skin can certainly contribute to premature aging of the skin, which CBD may be able to treat. So far, scientific research has been inconclusive about CBD for anti-aging.

Science has agreed that CBD could be a good supplement for the skin. That being said, it hasn’t confirmed the cure-all status that many retailers are claiming. What does this mean? CBD is a great complimentary addition to your beauty routine that is unlikely to cause any sort of irritation or allergic reaction. Your skin and hair still needs more than just a CBD dose for beauty and wellness.

What to Look For When Buying CBD Skincare Products

Aside from checking to see if that hemp oil you are buying is made from cannabis sativa seeds or from the plant, there are a few other ways to check to see if the product is legit.

To verify if a beauty product really contains CBD, you can look for labeling that uses terms like “full-spectrum,” “cannabidiol,” “phytocannabinoid-rich,” or “PCR hemp extracts.” You might also come across products that are labeled as “CBD isolate.” That means the item contains only CBD and no other compounds from the cannabis plant. However, products labeled as “full-spectrum” may also include various other compounds from the plant, like terpenes and flavonoids.

When you’re shopping for CBD oil for your skin, it may be worth considering how you’re planning on using it. If you’re looking to treat irritation or redness, you may want to start by incorporating a CBD cream or CBD face mask into your beauty routine. Or, if you’re interested in adding CBD to your regimen for dry skin or acne, you may want to try an oil composed of both CBD and hemp seeds. That way it doesn’t clog your pores.

There’s no shortage of CBD beauty products to choose from. In today’s market, you could potentially replace every single item in your beauty routine with something containing CBD. That’s right, even down to your mascara and lip balm, there is a CBD product for everything. If you’re still not sure if CBD skin care is right for you, start with something simple — like a low dose CBD serum for your face.
