An Edibles High Will Kick In 3 Times As Fast Using Cannabis Oil Powder

Homemade cannabis oil powder recipe

Cannabis oil powder for edibles have already hit legal marijuana markets. With time, they may completely change the way we cook with weed – or consume cannabis in general. We finally have the recipe for it, and it’s super easy.

Although individual manufacturers offer different variations of this technology, all versions follow the same approach. Cannabinoids, like THC or CBD, are encapsulated with a starch or other carbohydrate.

When this happens, the nanoscopic cannabinoid droplet behaves like a sugar. Sugars can dissolve in water, unlike oil. More importantly, when you put cannabis powder in your mouth, it starts absorbing immediately through your carbohydrate uptake pathways. Your body recognizes it as a carbohydrate, and you will start to feel the effects of the edibles much faster. When eating a cannabis edible, the high usually starts to kick in after about an hour.

However, if the cannabis infused oil is made into a powder, you can start feeling the effects in 15 – 20 minutes.   With the much quicker reaction time offered by powdered cannabis, weed edible users reduce their chances of eating too much. This has become an issue with cannabis edibles for awhile now. Proper Dosing makes the difference between a good experience versus a bad one.

Cannadish puts it to the test

We infused an 1/8 ounce of cannabis with oil, and start to bind the finished product with tapioca maltodextrin (a food grade dextrose made from Tapioca). After this Cannabis oil is made into a powder, we put it to the test.

This cannabis oil certainly did not appear to be water-soluble. However, this is not what we expect. As the maltodextrine dissolves, the oil will stay behind. We will continue to experiment using concentrates to be able to make it appear water-soluble, in a way that people are able to make the recipe at home. Learn more about water-soluble THC here.

Interestingly, the effects of the high started to kick in between 15 and 20 minutes after ingestion, mixed into regular food. Making the effects 3 times as fast as a typical weed edible.

You can also just straight up eat the powder. It has a similar texture to cotton candy. As soon as you put it on your tongue, it dissolves. If you want to take it to the next level, you can add nutella, chocolate, or peanut butter to the mix. Try making cannabis chocolate powder or peanut butter powder. Check out the recipe here:

    very helpful.

I had similar success with this recipe in the past. If you put an emulsifier in your oil along with your cannabis(I used live resin) then your powder will in the end be water miscible

  3. What is the shelf life and does it need to be refrigerated?

  4. Can you use Poly Dextrose instead?

  5. Could I use a tincture instead of an oil?

  6. Maltodextrin has a weird taste to it is there anything else you can use in place of it?

    1. I have been utilizing maltodextrin for a year now, I don’t use any actual oil! I mix either feco or distillate with everclear until it’s dissolved then once I’ve determined how much I need for a specific dose I mix that then allow the alcohol to evaporate!
Monk fruit actually tastes much better!

    2. Not when you put it in capsules!

    3. The taste of Maltodextrine is very neutral. Is it maybe the Cannabis oil that has the strong weird taste?

I’ve been making whole plant powder for 11 months and keep posting the recipe.
All you do is heat 8,9 parts olive oil with 1 part lecithin and mix in one part raw FECO and drop by drop, put it into maltodextrin, then put more malto on top or flip it like a pancake to cover it. Keep doing the droplets. I use 1 gram of the oil mixture per 3tablespoons of maltodextrin. I use my hands to really work it into the maltodextrin. Even after doing that, I knead it more, that seems to be the key. It kills my pain instantly and other symptoms all instantly.

Karen – Thanks so much for sharing your FECO-based recipe. It seems like the result is a paste. Do you think that playing with the mixture of the oil mixture and the maltodextrin would result in a powder rather than a paste?

I was wondering if you would send me your recipe?
      Thanks for sharing!

    3. Could you email me your recipe

A warning for diabetics and anyone sensitive to carbs…the carb count on the powder is HIGH. It’ll get you high but it’ll make your blood sugar rise very quickly, depending on how sensitive to sugar carbs.

    1. Use monk fruit instead! We found that to be quite a bit lower on the glycemic level, it’s sweeter to the taste and it actually hits faster especially if you use liquid sunflower lecithin!

      1. Would you mind sharing your monk fruit and liquid lechin recipe?

  9. Nick Pruden says:

Could you use Canna coconut oil or would the powder not be quite right?

    1. It would not work as well! If you mix the cannabis oil (feco or distillate) with coconut oil then mix it with the maltodextrin I believe it would be an oily powder!
Always rehydrate your feco/distillate by mixing it in everclear!

  10. Michele Spagnuolo says:

How do you go about dosing this and/or knowing the dose?

    1. I always buy my feco or distillate from a source that tests it so I know exactly what my dose of each canabinoids is! I make one just for night time that has cbn in it!
